Thames Ironworks FC is founded in the shipyards of east London.

A shipyard owner's gift to his workers quietly became one of English football's most enduring clubs.
Arnold Hills, owner of the Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company, backed the formation of a football club for his workers in Canning Town. Thames Ironworks FC played their first match in 1895. Five years later, the club was reformed as West Ham United, taking up residence at the Boleyn Ground in Upton Park in 1904, a home they would occupy for over a century.
