A boy band is born on The X Factor.

Third place and a record deal; not bad for a sixteen-year-old who didn't even make it as a soloist.
Harry Styles auditioned for The X Factor as a solo artist at sixteen, singing "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder. He didn't make it through as a soloist. Instead, at the judges' suggestion, he was grouped with four other eliminated contestants to form One Direction. They finished third in the competition but signed with Simon Cowell's Syco Records almost immediately.
