Harry Styles auditioned for The X Factor as a solo artist at sixteen, singing "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder. He didn't make it through as a soloist. Originally planned for 2020, Love On Tour was delayed by the pandemic and finally began in September 2021. It would run for nearly two years, spanning 169 shows across five continents. The tour included a historic 15-night residency at Madison Square Garden in New York and a 15-night run at Wembley Arena in London. It grossed over $617 million, making it one of the highest-grossing concert tours of all time.

Styles' third album, Harry's House, was released in May 2022 and won Album of the Year at the 65th Grammy Awards in February 2023. Lead single "As It Was" spent 15 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the most-streamed song on Spotify that year. At 29, Styles had achieved something few former boy band members manage: sustained critical respect alongside massive commercial success.
