Geoffrey Arnold Beck is born in Wallington, Surrey.

Before his first proper gig, Beck was already building his own instrument from a cigar box.
Jeff Beck arrived on 24 June 1944, growing up in a modest household where music was not the family trade. He built his first guitar from scratch as a teenager, reportedly using a cigar box and a picture frame. By his mid-teens he was playing in local groups around South London, absorbing the blues records of Muddy Waters and Les Paul's pioneering electric work in equal measure.
