England toured Japan in September 1971, playing two tests against the Brave Blossoms. England won both matches comfortably, with the first encounter ending 27-19 in Osaka. It was the beginning of a fixture that would take decades to become truly competitive, but the seeds of Japan's rugby ambition were already visible in their willingness to take on the established nations.
