At just 18, Eric Clapton joined the Yardbirds, one of the key bands driving the British blues boom. His technical ability on guitar was already remarkable, drawing from the records of Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, and B.B. King. He left the band in 1965 when they shifted towards a more pop-oriented sound, a decision that would define his artistic integrity for decades to come.
