A farmer, a field, and free milk.

A £1 ticket and a pint of farm milk. That was Glastonbury's opening offer.
Michael Eavis, a Somerset dairy farmer, attended the Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music in June 1970 and saw Led Zeppelin perform. Inspired, he organised the Pilton Pop, Blues & Folk Festival at Worthy Farm on 19 September that year. Around 1,500 people turned up, each paying £1 for a ticket that included free milk from the farm. Marc Bolan headlined, performing as the sun set over the Vale of Avalon.
