Royal Jersey Golf Club is founded on the links at Grouville.

Royal by appointment within a year; Queen Victoria had good taste in golf courses.
A group of enthusiasts established the Jersey Golf Club on the common land at Grouville, overlooking the Royal Bay and the medieval bulk of Mont Orgueil Castle. The course occupied natural linksland beside the sea, and within a year Queen Victoria granted the club its "Royal" prefix, making it one of the earliest clubs in the British Isles to receive the honour.
