A BBC report changes everything.

From one television broadcast to a chart-topping single in under six weeks; Geldof moved fast.
On 23 October 1984, BBC journalist Michael Buerk broadcast a report from Ethiopia that exposed the scale of the famine to a global audience. Bob Geldof, watching at home, was so shaken he immediately began planning a response. Within weeks, he and Midge Ure had assembled Band Aid, a supergroup of British and Irish pop stars, to record 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' at Sarm West Studios in London. Released on 7 December, it became the fastest-selling single in UK chart history and raised over £8 million.
