A teenager from Atlanta signs to LaFace Records and releases his debut album.

Fourteen years old, church choir-trained, and already sounding like a veteran; Atlanta had no idea what it had just introduced to the world.
At just 14, Usher Raymond IV released his self-titled debut album on LaFace Records, the label co-founded by L.A. Reid and Babyface. The record was modest in commercial terms, but it signalled something unusual: a teenager with vocal maturity well beyond his years and a stage presence already polished by years of performing in his church choir and local talent shows in Atlanta.
