Eight men, one course, and the birth of championship golf.

Eight men, one day, one red leather belt. Championship golf had simpler beginnings than most imagine.
On 17 October 1860, eight professional golfers teed off at Prestwick Golf Club in Ayrshire to compete for a red leather Challenge Belt. Willie Park Sr. shot 174 over three rounds of Prestwick's 12-hole course to claim the first Open Championship, beating Old Tom Morris by two strokes. The entire occasion lasted a single day.
