Manchester City's origins in a church parish in East Manchester.

A church, a brawl problem, and a woman's idea: that is the true origin of Manchester City.
The club that would become Manchester City was founded as St. Mark's (West Gorton) in 1880, the brainchild of Anna Connell and two churchwardens who wanted to give young men in the parish something to do besides fight. They became Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887, then reformed as Manchester City in 1894 after financial difficulties forced a restructure.
