Our best tips

Weather

Abu Dhabi averages 26°C in December, warm without the summer scorching. Evenings cool slightly, so pack a light layer. Perfect Grand Prix timing.

Dress code

Modest dress code: loose-fitting clothes covering shoulders, arms, and legs. Pack swimwear for Atlantis pools, beach clubs, and waterparks. If visiting Jumeirah Mosque or Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, bring a respectful, covering option.

Getting around

Getting around Abu Dhabi from Dubai

You're based in Dubai, not Abu Dhabi

The included flights land in Dubai with hotels on the Palm, so the Yas Marina circuit is a drive east on race day.

Careem is the app, and Yas is self-contained

Use Careem over Uber across Dubai; out at the circuit, Yas Island packs the hotels, the marina and the mall in one place.

DIFC for a free Dubai evening

The Gate Avenue district draws the after-work crowd and the serious restaurants, away from the Downtown mall crush.

Let the island drain after the night race

The whole crowd leaves Yas at once, so we hold you back until the roads clear rather than join the crush.

Amazing Abu Dhabi GP experience

I booked the Abu Dhabi GP package including flights, transfers, hotel and tickets. Absolutely incredible experience, the staff were on hand and answered all of my queries, and the event was very well organised. I could not fault it at all! I am excited to book my next trip with Imperial.

The experience was fantastic

The experience was fantastic, of course a great event (Abu Dhabi F1) is hard to top as an all round event so really enjoyed that along with staying in Dubai at Atlantis. Some challenges with the initial booking and name changes but we got there. As a note, which i'm sure not the only one, is the bus leaving the car park at the F1, i get this is a venue issue and sure what your asked to do. As a suggestion for future, maybe you could get people to walk over to other side of the road (By Warner brothers) and meet at one of your team members. Then when you have 20-30 call a bus in from a more sensible location waiting 10-15 mins away, so save the 2 1/2 hour wait, not ideal and does impact the fun on the nights but accept not imperials faultThank you

Another Fabulous Abu Dhabi GP

Fabulous event. Pick ups and drop offs were well organised in a luxury coach. Seats at GP were excellent. We had booked one twin room but this wasn’t known by the hotel (the 3rd time this has happened, with the other times being at Roland Garros when we had to purchase another room.) Luckily the hotel found a twin room as we were early checking in. The access to the club lounge was great and the girls were always around for queries. Excellent event - please add an another extra night! Already booked for next year!

Great company, super well planned ..Amazing

We've just returned from an amazing F1 experience in Abu Dhabi. Great company, they really nailed the finer details, special appreciation to Marcus Lenton, our AM, he's a total joy to chat with, full of drive (F1 theme) and passion (simply one of the best sales guys I've encountered), and Sian and her crew looked after us during the trip.. hoping to rebook soon.

5 ⭐️Superb hotel and breakfast!

Superb hotel and incredible breakfast! The hotel staff were so friendly and accommodating. The seating at the track was perfect- great view of a few twists & straights. The Imperial staff were friendly and helpful. BE WARNED FERRARI WORLD IS FOR YOUNG AND SMALLER PEOPLE. It is not a museum as the few cars are models, not even the real thing. Height restrictions upwards!! Room service not good-drowning in mayonnaise! Pretty poor for 5 ⭐️ The flight’s decent. All round excellent weekend.

Exceptional!

We booked the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in Nov-22 as a surprise 60th birthday present for my father. I was more than a little reticent due to previous Trust Pilot reviews, but in all honesty the entire experience was exceptional. A very nice young lady named Gee took care of all the booking details in advance and the Imperial Team in-location were incredible - transfers ran seamlessly, the hotel was amazing and Yas Marina is a real sight to behold. I would definitely book with ICE again and highly recommend them. Thanks Gee - you were great!

The history of Abu Dhabi Grand Prix race weekend

The history of Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix arrived on the Formula One calendar in 2009 and immediately established itself as the season's showpiece finale. Held at the Hermann Tilke-designed Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island, it is one of the few races on the calendar that begins in daylight and finishes under floodlights, lending the event a visual drama that few circuits can match. In barely fifteen years, it has hosted some of the most controversial and memorable title deciders in the sport's history.

Abu Dhabi signs a deal to bring Formula One to the desert.

A deal to bring Formula One to Abu Dhabi from 2009, struck while Yas Island remained largely undeveloped.

The Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management company signed a contract with Formula One Management to host a Grand Prix from 2009. Construction of the Yas Marina Circuit began on Yas Island, a largely undeveloped stretch of land between Abu Dhabi city and the airport. The project was part of a broader ambition to position Abu Dhabi as a global destination for sport and entertainment.

A billion-dollar circuit with a hotel straddling the track; Yas Marina did not arrive quietly.

On 1 November 2009, Sebastian Vettel took pole position and led every lap to win the first Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for Red Bull Racing. The race served as the season finale and immediately showcased the circuit's unique day-to-night transition. The $1 billion Yas Marina facility, complete with a hotel straddling the circuit and a marina running through the paddock, set a new benchmark for F1 venues.

At 23, Vettel became the sport's youngest champion while Alonso watched his title slip away in traffic.

The 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix became one of the most dramatic season finales in F1 history. Four drivers arrived with a mathematical chance of winning the championship: Fernando Alonso, Mark Webber, Sebastian Vettel, and Lewis Hamilton. Vettel won the race and, at 23, became the youngest World Champion in the sport's history. Alonso, who had led the standings coming into the weekend, was left stranded in traffic after a strategic miscalculation by Ferrari.

Double points and a new era of dominance begin.

Hamilton sealed his second title here, as Mercedes quietly announced a reign that would define the decade.

The 2014 race was the first Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to carry double points, a controversial rule introduced to keep the championship alive until the final round. It worked, after a fashion: Lewis Hamilton beat Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg to clinch his second World Championship. The race also marked the beginning of the turbo-hybrid era at Yas Marina, with Mercedes' dominance reshaping the competitive order for years to come.

Rosberg wins the title, then walks away from the sport.

The Yas Hotel illuminated at night beside Yas Marina Circuit

Five days after clinching his championship, Rosberg stunned the paddock with his retirement; one of the most unexpected exits in the sport's modern history, set against Yas Marina's floodlights.

Nico Rosberg finished second behind Hamilton in the 2016 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but it was enough to secure his first and only World Championship. Five days later, he announced his retirement from Formula One, stunning the paddock. It was one of the most unexpected exits in the sport's modern history, and it happened in the afterglow of Yas Marina's floodlights.

2021

The most controversial finale in Formula One history.

One lap, older tyres, and a safety car call that rewrote the F1 rulebook.

Max Verstappen overtook Lewis Hamilton on the final lap of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to win his first World Championship, following a late safety car restart that remains one of the most debated decisions in F1 history. Race Director Michael Masi's call to allow only the lapped cars between Verstappen and Hamilton to unlap themselves set up a one-lap shootout. Hamilton, on older tyres, had no answer. The fallout led to significant changes in race direction procedures for the following season.

Yas Marina undergoes a major circuit redesign.

Yas Marina Circuit buildings and redesigned track layout

Ten seconds stripped from the lap; Tilke's redesign didn't tweak Yas Marina, it rewrote it.

Ahead of the 2021 race, the Yas Marina Circuit underwent its most significant layout changes since opening. The chicane at the hotel section was replaced with a sweeping banked left-hander, the hairpin at Turn 7 was tightened, and the final sector was completely reconfigured to encourage closer racing. The modifications, overseen by Tilke Engineers, were widely praised by drivers and shortened the lap by around 10 seconds.

2023
2023

Verstappen seals a record-breaking season in Abu Dhabi.

Nineteen wins from twenty-two starts; Verstappen did not so much contest a season as conduct one.

Max Verstappen won the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to cap a season of staggering dominance: 19 victories from 22 races. It was his fifth win at Yas Marina, tying Lewis Hamilton's record at the circuit. The race also marked the final Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for several familiar faces, as the grid continued its generational shift.

Verstappen, pole, victory; now in its 17th running, Yas Marina holds a contracted grip on the season finale and shows no sign of letting go.

The 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix marked the 17th running of the edition, with Max Verstappen taking victory from pole position for Red Bull Racing. Abu Dhabi's contract with Formula One extends through the coming years, ensuring Yas Marina remains the traditional curtain-closer to the season. With its combination of world-class facilities, guaranteed weather, and a track that has now proven it can produce genuine drama, the race has earned its place among the calendar's most anticipated weekends.
