Newton Heath and Newcastle meet for the first time.

Before the name Manchester United even existed, Newton Heath were already locking horns with Newcastle.
Newton Heath, the club that would become Manchester United in 1902, faced Newcastle United in their earliest Football League encounters during the 1890s. Both clubs were establishing themselves in the top flight, with Newcastle having joined the Football League in 1893. These were raw, physical contests played on muddy pitches in front of growing industrial crowds.
