Cricket hospitality
Like a true sports fan, our clients love feeling immersed in this history. Commemorating England’s loss to Australia on home soil at the Oval on August 29th 1882, the term “Ashes” was introduced to mark this major setback. Soon after, The Sporting Times printed a mock obituary, mourning the home side’s loss.
It read:
“In Affectionate Remembrance of English cricket, which died at The Oval on 29 August 1882. Deeply lamented by a large circle of sorrowing friends and acquaintances RIP. NB – the body will be cremated and the ashes take to Australia.”
For the return series in 1883, England’s captain Ivo Bligh (later Lord Darnley), swore to “regain those ashes” during that tour—when which his future wife, Florence Morphy surprised him with a six-inch terracotta urn, believed to hold the ashes of a burned bail. Now known as the legend of The Ashes, we honour this cricket tradition between Australia and England.
Witness these two countries battle it out from your premium padded seats while rubbing elbows with cricket royalty! Enjoy a complimentary bar, including selected wines, beers and mainline spirits. From the cosy luxury of your private table, you and your guests will dive into delicious culinary journeys and create lasting memories. Cheers to this exhilarating day!
