Getting around
Old Trafford tram stop on the Altrincham line is a few minutes' walk from the ground. Trams run frequently from Manchester city centre and Piccadilly.
Taxis and ride-hailing services are readily available. On match days, expect some road closures around Sir Matt Busby Way, so allow extra time.
Manchester United Football Ground station (on the Liverpool-Manchester line) is right beside the stadium. Trains run from Manchester Piccadilly and Oxford Road.
Manchester United and Fulham share a fixture that stretches back over a century, though the two clubs have spent long periods in different divisions. The fixture found its modern rhythm when Fulham reached the Premier League in 2001, and Old Trafford has since hosted some memorable encounters between the red of Manchester and the white of west London.

I fell in love with Fulham at first sight.
Railway workers and cricketers, worlds apart; neither knew they were founding a rivalry.
Newton Heath LYR Football Club, the forerunner of Manchester United, was formed by railway workers in 1878. A year later, in 1879, a group in Fulham founded St Andrew's Cricket and Football Club, which would eventually become Fulham FC. Neither club could have imagined the fixture they would one day share.
A brand-new 80,000-capacity ground; a future icon of world football, opened on a February afternoon in 1910.
Manchester United moved into Old Trafford on 19 February 1910, with a capacity of around 80,000. The ground would become one of the most famous football venues on earth. Fulham, meanwhile, had been playing at Craven Cottage since 1896 and joined the Football League in 1907, but the two clubs were yet to meet in the top flight, with Fulham still in the Second Division.
Seventy-three years of waiting; Fulham's first taste of the top flight finally put United on the fixture list.
Fulham won promotion to the First Division for the first time in 1949, finally bringing the two clubs together in the top flight. The 1949-50 season saw Fulham visit Old Trafford under Matt Busby's United. It was the start of a fixture that would be played intermittently over the following decades, dictated by Fulham's fluctuating fortunes between divisions.
Johnny Haynes pocketed £100 a week before the fixture vanished for thirty years.
Through the 1950s and 1960s, Fulham and Manchester United met regularly in the First Division. Fulham boasted their own legends, including Johnny Haynes, the first footballer to earn £100 a week. The Cottagers were relegated in 1968, and the fixture disappeared from the calendar for over three decades. It would take a billionaire's ambition to bring it back.
Thirty-three years between visits to Old Trafford; Fulham had some catching up to do.
Mohamed Al-Fayed's investment transformed Fulham, and Jean Tigana's side won the First Division title in 2000-01 to reach the Premier League. The 2001-02 season saw Fulham visit Old Trafford for the first time since 1968. Sir Alex Ferguson's United were the dominant force in English football, and the fixture quickly became a test of Fulham's top-flight credentials.
Hodgson's Fulham turned a trip to Old Trafford into something Manchester United could no longer take for granted.
Under Roy Hodgson, Fulham enjoyed their most successful period, reaching the Europa League final in 2010. During this era, the fixture at Old Trafford carried genuine competitive edge. Fulham had established themselves as a settled Premier League side, and their visits to the Theatre of Dreams were no longer the formality some expected.
Thirteen years in the top flight, gone in one season; Old Trafford visits suddenly a privilege rather than a fixture.
Fulham were relegated from the Premier League in 2013-14, ending a 13-year stay in the top flight. The fixture vanished once more. Fulham bounced between the Championship and Premier League over the following years, with a brief return in 2018-19 before immediate relegation. The yo-yo years meant Old Trafford visits became sporadic rather than guaranteed.

Fulham won the Championship title under Marco Silva in 2021-22, returning to the Premier League with real intent. Under Shahid Khan's ownership, the club invested wisely and established themselves as a competitive mid-table side. The fixture at Old Trafford was restored as a regular Premier League occasion, with Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic scoring freely and the Cottagers proving they were back to stay.
