Two clubs are born a year apart in the industrial north and suburban London.

Schoolboys with a cricket club and factory workers in the east end; two founding stories, one year apart, that grew into a century of rivalry.
Newcastle United's origins trace to 1881, when Stanley FC was formed in the city's east end before merging with Rosewood FC to become Newcastle East End in 1882. Down in north London, a group of schoolboys from Hotspur Cricket Club founded Hotspur FC on 5 September 1882. Within a decade, both clubs would adopt the names the world knows them by: Newcastle United in 1892, Tottenham Hotspur in 1884.
