Aston Villa are founded by members of a Wesleyan chapel cricket team.

A chapel cricket club simply needed something to do in winter; the rest is football history.
On 21 November 1874, members of the Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel in Handsworth, Birmingham, decided they needed a winter sport to keep the cricket team together. Football was the answer. Within a decade, the club had outgrown its chapel origins and was competing at the highest level of the English game.
