Aston Villa founded by members of a Wesleyan chapel cricket team.

A church cricket club searching for a winter pastime accidentally founded one of English football's great institutions.
On 21 November 1874, members of the Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel in Handsworth, Birmingham, decided they needed something to do between cricket seasons. Football was the answer. Within a decade, the club had outgrown its chapel origins and was competing at the highest level of the English game.
