Newton Heath and Everton meet in the first Football League season.

Four years before Newton Heath even existed as a league side, Everton were already old hands at organised football.
Newton Heath, the club that would become Manchester United, joined the Football League's First Division in 1892. Everton, already established as one of the founding members of the League in 1888, were among their earliest opponents. The fixture was set from the very beginning of organised English football.
