Arsenal is born in a Woolwich munitions factory.

Woolwich Arsenal workers turned professional within seven years, becoming the first southern club in the Football League in 1893.
A group of workers at the Royal Arsenal in Woolwich formed Dial Square FC in October 1886, quickly renaming themselves Royal Arsenal. They played their early matches on Plumstead Common and the Manor Ground, funded by subscriptions and the odd whip-round. Within seven years they turned professional, becoming the first southern club to join the Football League in 1893.
