Woolwich Arsenal and Ardwick meet for the first time.

Manchester City did not yet exist when these two sides first met in November 1893; Ardwick became City the following year.
On 11 November 1893, Woolwich Arsenal hosted Ardwick (the club that would become Manchester City in 1894) in a Football League Second Division match. Arsenal won 1–0. Both clubs were still finding their feet in the professional game, and neither could have imagined the significance this fixture would carry more than a century later.
