Aston Villa are founded by members of a Wesleyan chapel cricket team.

Members of a Wesleyan chapel cricket team formed Aston Villa in 1874; fourteen years on, they were helping shape the Football League itself.
On 21 November 1874, members of the Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel in Handsworth, Birmingham, formed Aston Villa Football Club. Within a decade they were one of the strongest sides in the country. Villa were founding members of the Football League in 1888, and their early dominance set the standard for English club football.
